We're BACK!

We are home from our trip!  We did great. We had an incredible time and I will begin chronicling the stories of the places we went starting tomorrow.  What I will (brag about) say is this: We, after recent tallies, were en-some sort of-route a total of 37.5 hours.  That's nearly a full work week, traveling-four of us-in a minivan.  And I'll tell you, my kids were fabulous. And they were fabulous with no technology in their little hands what so ever. They read books. They played car bingo. They talked. They listened to stories on CD and a conglomeration of mix discs Tad made.  They colored and drew and stuck stickers onto things.  They had no car television and no hand-held devices (unless you count an etch-a-sketch or a magna-doodle).  I don't begrudge the use of technological things in the least, but Tad and I talked as we planned the trip and we decided that when we were kids, we traveled without visual technology and that our kids could too.  So that's what they did.  And they did it very well.

At any rate, we're home now and this led to a very exciting "smoothie" making activity today.  The night before we left, both kids made ingredients lists, akin to a recipe, for smoothies they wanted to make.  I promised them that we would make those smoothies when we got home.  And we did.

Coen's Smoothie (which he and Lucy thought delicious and Tad and I thought frightening)
1/2 cup lemonade
1 scoop ice cream
squeeze of lemon and lime
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
caramel syrup
5 sour candies
1/2 cup of water
1 Popsicle
5 chocolate chips

Lucy's Smoothie (which Coen thought okay, Lucy wouldn't drink and Tad and I thought to be pretty good, considering)
1 Popsicle
4 blueberries
4 strawberries
Apple slices
1/4 cup lemonade
1 scoop of ice cream.

It was a fun experience for everyone and we are all glad to be home.
Tune in tomorrow to hear about our time in Cincinnati, Ohio, the first leg of our family road trip.
